Since 2012, Brigham Research Institute (BRI) has awarded ten research projects with $100,000 BRIght Futures Prizes, supported by the philanthropic contributions to the BRIght Futures Fund. Ahmed Elzoghby, PhD, has interests spanning many worlds. His background and training are in material science and pharmaceutical formulation, but he has become increasingly interested in cancer biology. He has been a pharmacy student, a researcher, a lecturer and an advocate for the next generation of scientists. Dr. Elzoghby Received Litwin IBD Pioneers Award from Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation to support his project “Engineered Nanomedicine for Reversal of Fibrosis in Crohn’s Disease Patients”.

Dr. Elzoghby Received Concept Award from Department of Defense office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) to support his project “Engineering AntagomiR Nanodiscs to Reprogram Renal Cell Carcinoma-Associated Fibroblasts”.

Leyla E. Gonzalez Joined Elzoghby Lab in August 2024 as a Research Trainee.
Leyla is originally from Mexico. She is pursuing the final year of my Biomedical Engineering degree at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Dr. Aya Jarrous Joined Elzoghby Lab in September 2024 as an MD Researcher.
Aya Jarrous is a medical doctor and a graduate of the University of Damascus – College of Medicine in Damascus, Syria.

Dr. Alaa Bakr Joined Elzoghby Lab as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
Dr. Alaa Bakr is a distinguished veterinary pathologist and researcher with a Ph.D. in Pathology from Cairo University, Egypt. Currently serving as a Lecturer of Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, Dr. Bakr has over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and scientific contributions.

Anna Mayer Joined Elzoghby Lab on Jan 2025 as a Research Trainee.
Anna is an undergraduate student at Northeastern University studying Biology and Political Science with a minor in Spanish.

Ashley Park Joined Elzoghby Lab on Jan 2025 as a Research Trainee.
Ashley is a fifth-year undergraduate studying Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Psychology at Northeastern University.

Dr. Elzoghby Received Pilot & Feasibility (P&F) Award from Joslin Diabetes Research Center (DRC)-National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). This award will support his project “Halting diabetic renal fibrosis using circularized nanodisc”.

Dr. Elzoghby is a CO-PI of the GCTI CMC Award from Gene and Cell Therapy Institute (GCTI), Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB). This award will support his project “Highly Penetrating Renadisc for Remodeling of Kidney Myofibroblasts”.

Dr. Elzoghby received Discovery Award from Department of Defense office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) to support his project “Highly Penetrating Nanodisc for Targeting Fibroblast Plasticity in Pulmonary Fibrosis”.
